No Way Out (1987)

dir. Roger Donaldson

The KGB safe house where Lt. Tom Farrell (Kevin Costner) is being questioned - it stood on the southeast corner of South Arlington Ridge Road and 20th Street South, Arlington, Virginia. It was later demolished and replaced with another house. The intersection is still recognizable.

Farrell meets Susan Atwell (Sean Young) at a party - Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street NW, Washington, DC

Tom and Susan’s limousine ride – Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC

The Washington Monument, the National Mall, Washington, DC

The Lincoln Memorial, Lincoln Memorial Circle SW, Washington, DC

Defense Secretary Brice (Gene Hackman) and his General Counsel Scott Pritchard (Will Patton) meet over breakfast – P.O.V. Roof Terrace and Lounge, Hotel Washington, 515 15th Street NW, Washington DC

When they exit the building, it's actually the Hay-Adams Hotel, 800 16th NW, Washington DC

Tom’s apartment – 1503 30th Street NW, Washington, DC

Tom’s new assignment - The Pentagon, 1600 Defense Pentagon, Washington, DC (that's the official address though the Pentagon is actually located in Arlington County, Virginia.)

Pritchard has come to pick up Susan (it's also the house where she gets killed later) – 101 Quay Street, Alexandria, Virginia

Tom and Susan are going away for the weekend – George Washington Memorial Parkway, Washington DC

Tom and Susan stay at "Calvert Inn" - River Farm, 7931 E. Boulevard Drive, Alexandria, Virginia. It's home to the American Horticultural Society. Many thanks to Kara for pointing that out.

Tom rents a sailboat – Annapolis Sailing School, Back Creek, Annapolis, Maryland. Many thanks to Barry for his help.

Pritchard and Tom go to question Susan's friend Nina Beka (Iman) - 3016 Dumbarton Street NW, Washington, DC

Tom tries to escape Pritchard's henchmen – Whitehurst Freeway, Georgetown, Washington DC

Tom runs along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal near the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge, Georgetown, Washington, DC

In 2013, the property was leased to The Trump Organization for 60 years. The latter turned it into a luxury hotel, Trump International Hotel Washington, D.C. which opened in September 2016.

  3. The "Calvert Inn" looks a lot like a dressed-up private residence.

    A great rundown, thanks!

  4. "Calvert Inn" was filmed at River Farm, home of the American Horticultural Society, located off the George Washington Parkway, south of the city of Alexandria in Northern Virginia. http://www.ahs.org/about-river-farm

    Kara (nearby resident)

River Farm was part of the estate of George Washington.

    1. Thanks a lot, Kara! I've been searching for "Calvert Inn" for a couple of years. The film led me to believe it was in Maryland. I'll try to visit and take pictures.

  5. "Tom Rents a sailboat". I suggest that they are standing at the Annapolis Sailing School on Back Creek, Annapolis. Over Tom's shoulder you can see the end of a sign which at the time said "McNasby Oyster Company". I used to live there and sailed by the location many times and bought crabs at McNasbys.

  7. I worked in Georgetown for several years and I can confirm that Tom's chase off of the Whitehurst Freeway through the alleys located between K Street and the C&O Canal are actually quite correct up until the point that he enters the laughably non-existent Metro station. These same alleys were the scene of the murdered Secret Service agent in the Zoey's kidnapping episode of The West Wing.

  9. When the helicopter/plane flies over the final scene after Tom is questioned, what are the 2 identical apartment buildings seen to the right of the road Tom is driving on? (?Southern Towers?)

  11. I watched this movie for the first time in probably 20 years. It was terrific. I’ve lived in the DC area since I was 12 and I really enjoyed seeing the city from 30 years ago. I worked at the Omni Shoreham Two years after this movie was filmed there. We used to take the garage they used in the movie and converted into an exhibit hall!
