Le Cercle rouge (1970)

aka The Red Circle
dir. Jean-Pierre Melville

So far this only covers the Marseille opening and the portion of the film after the characters’ arrival in Paris.

Commissioner Mattei (André Bourvil) and Vogel (Gian Maria Volonté) get on a train – Marseille-Blancarde station, Place de la Gare de la Blancarde, Marseille, France.

Corey (Alain Delon) in a coffee shop – 1 Place Général de Gaulle, Marseille, France.

Corey crossing the street – La Canebière, Marseille, France.

Then he goes to a pool hall where he confronts two thugs – 26 Rue Pavillon, Marseille, France. The pool hall is still there but the doorway has been remodeled and is much narrower now.

Corey buys a car – Still searching for this location. Some sites claim that the dealership was on La Canebière but this is incorrect. The sidewalk here is very narrow while on La Canebière it's much wider (even before it had been expanded in recent years.) There's a reflection of the buildings on the other side of the street but it's not enough to identify the location. It may not even be in Marseille.

Mattei’s arrival in Paris – Gare de Lyon, Place Louis Armand, Paris, France.

Rue des Carmes at Boulevard Saint-Germain with the Panthéon seen in the background.

Mattei’s apartment – 47 Boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris, France.

The office of the Inspector General – Conciergerie, 2 Boulevard du Palais, Paris, France. The view is from the Quai des Gesvres across the Pont au Change.

Corey’s apartment – 19 Avenue Paul Doumer, Paris, France.

Santi’s (François Perier) nightclub – this was filmed on a studio set.

Jansen’s (Yves Montand) house – near 109 Boulevard Gabriel-Péri, Rosny-sous-Bois, Seine-Saint-Denis, France. The area has since been redeveloped and is barely recognizable. Many thanks to j-christophe for this information.

The Vendôme column, Place Vendôme, Paris, France.

The jewelry store – Maboussin, 20 Place Vendôme, Paris, France.

The fence’s (Paul Crauchet) house – 60 Rue de Saint-Antoine, Montreuil, Ile-de-France, France

Corey and Vogel park the car before the robbery – 25 Rue Danielle Casanova, Paris, France.

Corey and Vogel on their way to the jewelry store – 27 Rue Danielle Casanova, Paris, France.

Place Vendôme, Paris, France.

Santi's son is arrested – Place du Panthéon looking toward Rue Cujas, Paris, France.

The chateau where the film’s denouement takes place – Château de Monthyon, Monthyon, Seine-et-Marne, France. It belonged to actor Jean-Claude Brialy (1933-2007) who bequeathed it to the town of Meaux.
