L.A. Confidential (1997)

dir. Curtis Hanson

Many thanks to ItsFilmedThere for identifying the more obscure locations from the film. Check out this and many other Los Angeles-based movies over there.

Sid Hudgens’ (Danny DeVito) 'Hush Hush' office – Crossroads of the World, 6671 W. Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. This quirky structure, adorned with a streamline moderne tower and revolving globe, was built in 1936 as a shopping mall, but now it serves as an office complex.

Officer Bud White (Russell Crowe) arresting a domestic abuser – 4216 Rose Avenue, Long Beach, California

The liquor store where White first meets Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger) – 1277 S. Cochran Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

The ‘movie premiere pot bust’ – 1714 N. Gramercy Place, Los Angeles, California. The movie theater, seen behind Jack Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) was, in fact, the disused bank building at 5620 Hollywood Boulevard.

Captain Dudley Smith (James Cromwell) gives White his gun and badge back – Boardner's, 1652 N. Cherokee Avenue, Los Angeles, California. It's a classic Hollywood bar that was frequented in its heyday by the likes of Errol Flynn, singer Peggy Lee, and a Tinseltown hopeful named Elizabeth Short, who reportedly had a drink here on that fateful night when she became the Black Dahlia.

Two men get gunned down in the car – 4439 Victoria Park Drive, Los Angeles, California

Victory Motel – This was a set built in Baldwin Hills, Culver City, California.

Nite Owl Cafe – J & J Sandwich Shop, 119 E. 6th Street, Los Angeles, California.

Pierce Patchett's (David Strathairn) house – Lovell House, 4616 Dundee Drive, Los Angeles, California. Designed by Richard Neutra, who used only concrete, glass and steel, it's considered one of the prime examples of the early International Style architecture in Southern California.

Lynn Bracken's house – 501 Wilcox Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

Vincennes and Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) get information from boxer Bidwell – 1255 Bellevue Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

The shotgun bust house – 1241 N. Bronson Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

The house where the kidnapped girl is found – 496 E. Avenue 28, Los Angeles, California

Navarette’s hideout – 2618 San Marino Street, Los Angeles, California

The bar where Vincennes leaves a $50 tip – Frolic Room, 6245 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. Located next door to the Pantages Theatre, it's a remnant of Hollywood's long-gone Golden Age bar scene.

Hollywood Center Motel – 6720 W. Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California.

Mrs. Lefferts’ house where Leland Meeks’ body is found – 1704 Morton Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

The bar where White hassles Lana Turner's gangster boyfriend Johnny Stompanato, and where Exley later mistakes Turner for one of Patchett's hookers - Formosa Cafe, 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It's a long-running movie industry hangout where almost the entire wall space is covered with photos of the celebrities who have dined here at one time or another. The place was saved from demolition only after a couple of loud local fights.

Dudley Smith's house – 5668 Berkshire Drive, Los Angeles, California.

White dangles the District Attorney from the window – Pacific Electric Building, 610 S. Main Street, Los Angeles, California. It’s the 6th Street side, right across from J&J Sandwich Shop.

Ed says goodbye to Lynn and Bud – Los Angeles City Hall, 200 N. Spring Street, Los Angeles, California.

Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) following Hollis Mulwray (Darrell Zwerling) – Point Fermin Park, S. Gaffey Street at W. Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro, California

While trailing Mulwray, Gittes discovers that water is dumped into the sea at night – Sunken City, San Pedro, California. In 1929, the 600 block of Paseo Del Mar began slipping to the sea and the movement, measured up to 11 inches a day, continued until the mid-1930s. The houses were moved but the eastern section of Point Fermin Park was lost and the terrain is very unstable. The area is closed but can still be observed from Point Fermin Park at W. Paseo Del Mar and Gaffey Street.
