The Apartment (1960)

dir. Billy Wilder

C. C. Baxter's (Jack Lemmon) office building – 2 Broadway, New York, New York. The 32-story skyscraper, completed in 1959 right before the filming, replaced a landmark of the nineteenth-century city, George B. Post's New York Produce Exchange. The curtain wall was redesigned in 1999.

Baxter’s apartment – 51 W 69th Street, New York, New York. There are a few shots of the real building but the rest was done on a soundstage replica. The façade has since changed and the staircases have been removed. What used to be the apartment entrance is now a second-story window. The ongoing renovation prevented me from taking a good picture of it.

Baxter spends a night on a park bench – West Drive, Central Park, New York, New York.

Baxter makes a date with Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine) – Beaver Street at Broadway, New York, New York.

Fran goes to a Chinese restaurant – New Street, New York, New York.

The Chinese restaurant where Fran meets with Baxter's boss Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray) – 58 or 60 New Street, New York, New York. It has since been replaced with a modern building, and it’s hard to pinpoint the exact address.

Baxter waiting for Ms Kubelik outside the theater – The Majestic, 245 W 44th Street, New York, New York. The marquee advertises The Music Man, "one of the best musical comedies of our times." The times have surely changed, and it's showing The Phantom of the Opera now.

    1. If you mean the marble villa in the beginning, it's the Villa Les Palmiers in Nice, France.

  2. Thank you kindly Yuri G. for replying to me. In the Foreign Intrigue movie with Robert Mitchum I was looking for the first shot when Mitchum comes out of that building with the other guy and gets into his blue car. And what was that bridge he crossed over? It's between 4 and 5th minute of the start of the movie. Again any help thanks.

    1. The good news is that I've found it. It's on the corner of Avenue d'Ostende and Boulevard Albert 1er, Monaco-Ville. The bad news is that the building has been demolished. The spot where Mitchum parked his car is still there. The stone bridge is in Eze, between Monaco and Nice.

  3. FYI, 51 W 67th is the movie address vs. the physical actual address mentioned.

  4. Hi, I'm trying to track down photos of the office building in The Apartment, and wondered how I might find the stills (and any other photos of the building) that you posted? My stepfather's first job was working on the construction of that building. I'm putting together a book of his life for him, and The Apartment was filmed just a couple of years after 2 Broadway was constructed.
