The alien spaceship's landing – The Ellipse, Washington, DC
The boarding house where Klaatu (Michael Rennie) stays under the name of Mr. Carpenter – Still searching for this location but it’s probably a studio backlot.
Klaatu and Bobby (Billy Gray) go to Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, where Bobby's father is buried. The white building in the establishing shot is the Old Administration Building. This was originally the site of Arlington House's stables, built between 1803 and 1818. In 1932, the stables were converted into an administration building. A new administration building was constructed in 1975, and the sign "Arlington National Cemetery" was taken down.
Klaatu and Bobby visit the Lincoln Memorial, Lincoln Memorial Circle SW, Washington, DC
Klaatu and Bobby go to Professor Barnhardt's house - 1609 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC
The troops are put on high alert – Ronald Reagan National Airport, Washington, DC
For two decades, I've had a passion for film locations and film-related travel. Now I'd like to share this passion and its fruits through this blog. I've amassed vast image archives that still need to be converted into posts, and there are many new findings that are still waiting to be photographed, so please be patient.
While some of these locations have been covered elsewhere, many others represent my own research and appear here for the first time. I hope you'll enjoy the site.
Hi! Does the frequency of your posting depend on specific things or you work on blog articles when you have a special mood or you create when you have time? Can't wait to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteI have a full-time job so I work on this blog mostly on weekends (I wish it was just up to my mood and inspiration.) It's also a matter of having pictures ready. I have several posts planned but waiting for pictures to be taken. Some posts are delayed because key locations are unidentified. I don't get that much feedback on this blog, so your comment is appreciated.
DeleteI have been to the Harvard Street address where the boarding house is supposed to be, and that block has an apartment complex on it and looks nothing like the movie scenes.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, during WW II, my parents lived in an apartment at 1441 Harvard St, NW, Washington, DC. In 2005, my Mom & I drove by the apartment building and there was no building like Patricia Neal's boarding house on Harvard St.
ReplyDeleteUsed to pass the house on 16th street all the time as a kid. Recognized it in the movie as well. But today is the first time I recognized the address in the movie. Cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you this is great!
ReplyDeleteI just watched the movie and was looking up locations and found your site. Thanks for posting pictures.
ReplyDeleteI used to read the gas meter at the perfesor home
