The Soviet authorities didn’t allow filming in Moscow, and once again Helsinki, Finland stood in for the Russian capital. Other scenes were filmed in and around Stockholm, Sweden. This post only covers the Stockholm locations.
The Moscow baths where Arkady Renko (William Hurt) meets with Iamskoy (Ian Bannen) and shoots him – Sturebadet, Sturegallerian 36, Stockholm, Sweden.
The hotel where Renko stays – Sheraton, Tegelbacken 6, Stockholm, Sweden.
Osborne (Lee Marvin) drives Renko – Strömbron, Stockholm, Sweden. As it often happens in the movies, the route doesn’t make sense geographically. They need to get to an apartment in Östermalm but instead they are going to Gamla Stan which is in the opposite direction.
Osborne driving through Gamla Stan – Österlånggatan at Köpmanbrinken, Stockholm, Sweden. The statue of St. George and the dragon is now obscured by a tree.
The apartment where Osborne keeps Irina Asanova (Joanna Pacula) – Eriksbergsgatan 28, Stockholm, Sweden.
For two decades, I've had a passion for film locations and film-related travel. Now I'd like to share this passion and its fruits through this blog. I've amassed vast image archives that still need to be converted into posts, and there are many new findings that are still waiting to be photographed, so please be patient.
While some of these locations have been covered elsewhere, many others represent my own research and appear here for the first time. I hope you'll enjoy the site.
