Hitchcock's final film is set in an unnamed city, an odd combination of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Someone humorously labeled it "San Frangeles."

The old Tudor-style mansion was razed some time after 2011, and replaced with a new house (but you can still see the original gated entrance on an old Google Street View.) One source claims that the interior was filmed at a South Pasadena mansion.

Built in in 1929, this Art Deco gem was designated a Los Angeles Cultural Monument in 1969 and was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Southwestern Law School has occupied the building since 1995, following the store's closure.
