The Zero Effect (1998)

Zero's apartment building - Westin Century Tower, 2055 Avenue of the Stars, Los Angeles, California. The tower was built in 1984, as an addition to the Century Plaza Hotel. In 2000, after Westin was acquired by Starwood, the Tower was converted into a separate hotel, The St. Regis Los Angeles. That hotel was then sold by the owners of the Century Plaza in 2005 to developers, and the building was demolished to make way for The Century, a high-rise condominium completed in 2009. "McFetridge Planetarium" – Vista House, Crown Point, approximately 15 miles east of Portland, Oregon. The Vista House was built in 1916 at the same time as the Historic Columbia River Gorge Highway, and was designed to be a place of refreshment and enjoyment of the Columbia Gorge. There's no planetarium there but it houses a museum, gift shop and interpretive display of historic and geologic points of interest in the Gorge.

My Own Private Idaho (1991)

Hustling in Seattle – Gatewood Hotel (now closed), 107 Pine Street, Seattle, Washington. It has been converted into an apartment house.

Waking up in Portland – Elk Fountain, SW Main Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues, Portland, Oregon. The actual sculpture has no rider - Van Sant painted one of his production assistants green, and placed him on top. The engraving at the base was changed to "The Coming of the White Man," as a reference to a Washington Park monument known, in the 1970s and early 1980s, as a marketplace for those seeking late-night male company.

The restaurant where Mike and his friend Scott (Keanu Reeves) hang out – 213 SW Broadway, Portland, Oregon. It was a Chinese restaurant at the time but it's Bailey's Tap Room now.
