I've heard it said that the scene where he pays the guy to beat him up is in the now demolished Balboa Building Materials building near Ocean and San Jose Avenue in the Excelsior District. Perhaps your research can confirm that.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWhere was Dirty Harry's apartment in Dirty Harry?
Thanks,
Mike
The building has been converted to a church
ReplyDeleteFantastic website. Came here to track down some San Francisco film locations.
ReplyDeleteJust some small corrections on local place names. I have never heard the Waldo tunnel on the Waldo Grade being called anything other than the Rainbow Tunnel / Waldo Tunnel by locals. Been driving through it for almost 35 years. My daily commute for years. The Rainbow was added unofficially in the 1970's as a "going away present" by the senior local guy at CalTrans. Kind of official guerrilla art. I have never ever heard the tunnel called "The Robin William Tunnel" by anyone in Marin.
Just because some politicians in Sacramento stuck a name on something does not mean that is the named used. Just like no one unless they are being very sarcastic call the west side of the Bay Bridge the Willie Brown Bridge..
Same goes for Army St in San Francisco. Where the Bullitt car chase start to climb Bernal Heights. Great way of telling a local from a recent arrival. It will always be Army St to the locals. And Caesar Chavez to recent arrivals.
The schoolbus hijack shot at 15'th / Noriega was a few blocks from where I used to live. The neighborhood is called Golden Gate Heights. That street is one way, opposite direction to bus, and if anyone is ever visiting the location there is a park beside that street with a great view from the top. When its not foggy.
Keep up the great work.
