Having just watched the film on TCM it struck me at the time as probably a matte painting, possibly a model, for the bad 'headlight effect' in the second half of the film.
ReplyDeleteDo you mean Commodore Gill's house?
DeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you would be able to tell me the film's connection to Roehampton Club as appears in your last screenshot? Many thanks
The Theatrical Garden Party was an annual charity event held to benefit the Actors Orphanage. The party took place at the Roehampton Club a year before "Stage Fright" was made. Hitchcock was planning to shoot this episode on location, and donate the film's London premiere proceeds to charity. Eventually, he decided to film it on a studio back lot because it was simpler.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteMy late father was the proud owner of the actual Armstrong Siddeley Typhoon in this film. Sadly, I only recently discovered that it appeared in Stage Fright. My father would have been absolutely thrilled that his pride and joy had once appeared in an Alfred Hitchcock film.
