In 1929, the 600 block of Paseo Del Mar began slipping to the sea and the movement, measured up to 11 inches a day, continued until the mid-1930s. The houses were moved but the eastern section of Point Fermin Park was lost and the terrain is very unstable. The area is closed but can still be observed from Point Fermin Park at W. Paseo Del Mar and Gaffey Street.

Should you wish for just a bit more sleuthery, see if you can find the (lower?) middle class house at 1712 Alameda.
That is where Jake, in custody in the cops' sedan, guiles them to chauffeur him. For some reason, once there, they also let him go to to the house on his own.
He knocks.
It's Curly's house.
His wife has a black eye.
The cops are still waiting outside, as Gittes gives them the slip, and rolls out, on the lam in Curly's truck.
Actor Burt Young ('Curly') would later portray the recurring character 'Paulie' in the Rocky films.
