McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) arrives in the Oregon Department of Corrections, 2575 Center Street NE, Salem, Oregon
The hospital - J Building, Oregon State Hospital, 2600 Center Street NE, Salem, Oregon. The old J Building was demolished in 2010 and is now replaced with a new building. Some props from the movie are featured in the new Museum of Mental Health located on the premises.
McMurphy hijacks a bus with mental patients and drives through Salem - the 400 block of Court Street, Salem, Oregon. That particular portion of the street changed so much over the years, it's almost unrecognizable now. The building in the background is the Reed Opera House that was a department store at the time.
McMurphy takes the patients for a fishing trip - Depoe Bay, Oregon, "the smallest harbor in the world," located on U.S. Route 101 next to the Pacific Ocean.
For two decades, I've had a passion for film locations and film-related travel. Now I'd like to share this passion and its fruits through this blog. I've amassed vast image archives that still need to be converted into posts, and there are many new findings that are still waiting to be photographed, so please be patient.
While some of these locations have been covered elsewhere, many others represent my own research and appear here for the first time. I hope you'll enjoy the site.
